Our volleyball program proudly competes in the prestigious Mission League, showcasing the strength, skill, and dedication of our student-athletes. We are home to three competitive teams: Frosh, JV, and Varsity—a unique distinction that sets our program apart. This structure offers students the opportunity to grow, develop, and compete at every level throughout their high school journey. As a major recruitment highlight, our volleyball program is committed to fostering both athletic excellence and leadership on and off the court.

Facilities:

The teams train and play their games in the Notre Dame Academy gymnasium.

Tryouts/Evaluations:

The Indoor Volleyball program conducts mandatory summer evaluations for all those who would like to participate. Pending skill and experience, you will be placed in the appropriate level to set you up for success.

SPORT: Indoor Volleyball

TITLE:  Head Varsity Coach

TENURE AT NDASLA: 11th Season

EDUCATION: West Texas A&M

Playing Career:

 A four-year letter winner at West Texas A&M, Coach Hall was a member of three Lone Star Conference Championship teams, two regional championship teams and a Final Four team in 1999. A middle blocker, she was the MVP of the 1996 Mile High Classic and was a three-time All-Lone Star Conference selection.

 

Coaching Career:

A former teacher and coach in Phoenix, Coach Hall ran the varsity volleyball program at Pinnacle High School where her team captured an Arizona State Runners-Up title in 2005 and she was named The Arizona Republic Big-Schools Coach of the Year and the Northeast Valley Coach of the Year.  Following her 2005 campaign, Coach Hall became the Assistant Coach at Arizona State University in the PAC-12 conference for volleyball. In her time at Arizona State, Coach Hall  was responsible for organizing and coordinating travel plans, assisting in recruiting, assisting in practice planning and training of athletes, and serving as the Assistant Sun Devil Camp coordinator. She helped the Sun Devils advance from an RPI ranking of 152 in 2005 to a ranking of 25 in 2006. That increase in RPI resulted in ASU reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the previous four seasons as the Sun Devils advanced to the second round of the tournament.  In 2009 Coach Hall moved to the Los Angeles area to take the assistant volleyball coaching position at Loyola Marymount University.  During her two seasons at LMU she helped guide LMU from last place finishers in the West Coast Conference to a fifth and fourth place finish respectively.

On the club side, Coach Hall has served as a Club Arrowhead coach and recruiting coordinator in Glendale, Ariz.  Under those titles, she developed and implemented a strategic recruiting plan to better help club athletes earn collegiate volleyball scholarships. Organizing all practice sessions, game plans and management of the team, she guided her Girls 16U squad to an Arizona Open Region Championship. She also spent a three-year stint at Club Troy in Southern California run by legendary coach Mick Haley at USC. Coach Hall earned a 2012 U18 Runners-Up title at the Arizona State Festival Tournament and a 2014 U17 Bronze Medal at Junior Olympic Nationals.

TITLE:  Head Frosh Coach

TENURE AT NDASLA: 10th Season

EDUCATION: Columbia University

Playing Career:

 Coach Helen's indoor volleyball playing experience began at Columbia University where she was captain of the Varsity Volleyball team. Her adult club volleyball team, Paine Webber Volleyball Club, took 5th at Nationals.

Coach Helen’s beach volleyball career has spanned over 20 years.  She was a top ten finisher on the AVP, top five finisher on the WPVA, and a participant in the top 12 team tournament in Las Vegas.  She was the winner of the Jose Cuervo Tournaments in Honolulu and in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, and the winner of the California State Championship Cal Cup in Manhattan Beach two years in a row.  She won a televised EVP tour stop in Hermosa Beach.   Coach Helen’s Masters Team has won the Manhattan Beach Surf Festival Six-Man Tournament 4 out of the past 5 years.  She still competes in CBVA tournaments when able.

 

Coaching Career:

Coach Helen has coached the Frosh/Soph Indoor Volleyball Team since 2014.  Her passion is teaching fundamentals and strategy to developing players.  In addition, she has been the director of Beach Volleyball at Notre Dame Academy since 2014.  In 2021, the team won the Westside Division in 2021 and went on to finish fourth in the IBVL Playoffs under her direction.  Two of NDA’s Varsity teams won Gold & Silver in the 2021 IBVL Pairs Championships. 

Coach Helen brings more than 18 years of coaching experience with clubs including Club Troy, Oaks Volleyball Club, and Culver City Volleyball Club.  As an assistant coach, she helped lead the Culver City Volleyball Club 16s to the finals of the SCVA Soiree in 2010.

Coached club volleyball 14s and 16s at Oaks VBC, Culver and Club Troy at USC. Coached all levels indoor volleyball at St. Martin of Tours for 9 years. Ran my own Summer Beach Camps for over 10 years. Managed Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos' Beach Volleyball Camp at Will Rogers State Beach. Coached at Crescent Beach Volleyball Club. Assistant Coach at Pierce College Beach Volleyball.

In addition to serving as head coach of the varsity volleyball teams at St. Martin of Tours School in Brentwood from 2003 - 2011, Coach Helen has run beach volleyball clinics and given private lessons for various age groups for over 20 years.   Along with Oaks Volleyball Club Director Carrie Wright, she has run a summer beach volleyball skills camp for girls and boys ages 8 - 16 for 10 years.   Coach Helen has been on the Crescent Volleyball Club’s Beach Coaching Staff under Sinjin Smith and Tom Slaughterbeck for several years.

A former standout at Simi Valley High and Moorpark College, Morlan coaches at several volleyball organizations and is currently studying Criminology at California State University, Long Beach.
